Grade 1
September 2017
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Welcome! My name is Manon Boudreau and I am pleased to be your child’s French teacher this year. I am looking forward to an exciting year together.
In Grade One, we will be learning the basic sounds, speaking and writing in short complete sentences, and listening to a variety of French songs and videos to get use to different accents and voices. We will be using reading strategies to understand a variety of short texts.
In Social studies, we will use inquiry based learning to focus on OUR CHANGING ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES and THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.
Because French is a second or third language for the students, I use a lot of actions, songs, poems, repetitions and pictures. New vocabulary will be learned in context so I will not send a list of vocabulary or sounds weekly, but I might send poems or short readings to memorize for a special event such as the Christmas Concert.
Therefore, I will not assign daily homework and instead encourage you to help your child strengthen his/her French skills at home by reading French library books, playing French games/apps, listening to/watching French media, looking for examples of French language/culture in the world around them, etc…Please see the list of some of my favorite websites on my webpage.
Most used websites are:
http://www.lasouris-web.org Links to a variety of Subjects in French and Activities online
http://www.les-coccinelles.fr Offers printable working sheets
YouTube: les comptines Boutchou! les comptines de Gabriel
The students love those easy songs! (actions and words)
In the event that your child does have homework (a short class presentation or research) it will be noted in his/her agenda. You can keep up with what we are doing each week by following our class webpage: classedemadameboudreau.weebly.com
I look forward to ensuring your child’s success this year. Your child’s agenda is a good way to communicate with me. I may also be reached during school hours through the school office (613-825-2520).
Blessings,
Manon Boudreau
